FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do we get backpacks filled with grade appropriate school supplies?

The parade procession will not occur this year, but we are still distributing school supplies at Bartholomew Park.  In the past years, we’ve discovered that the greater need between the celebration and the school supplies is the school supplies.  Thus, we will be distributing school supplies on a first come first served basis.  Children MUST be present since we give the school supplies to the children.  At this time, we distribute school supplies to K-12 grade students.

Date: August 23, 2015
Time: 1p
Location:  Bartholomew Park (baseball field side)
5201 Berkman Drive
Austin, TX  78723

We will gather information from the parents for the purposes of simply better understanding the demographics of the families served.  Additionally, this gathering of information helps us to inform you of our events.  This information is not a determining factor for receiving a backpack.  The only criteria to receive a backpack is stated above.

2. Is this parade for Austin Independent School District only?

No. The parade is open to all school districts in the Austin metropolitan area, such as Pflugerville ISD, Round Rock ISD, Manor ISD, etc.  Almost any organization can participate in the parade since the return of school effects everyone, such as churches, softball teams, Pathfinders, Adventurers, fraternities, sororities, Boy Scout Troops, Girls Scout troops, etc.

3.  How much does it cost to participate?

FREE—School Groups (bands, cheerleaders, chess club, FBLA, etc.)
$100 – Adult Social Club (softball teams, kickball teams, biker clubs, etc.)
$400 – Community Organization (charity organizations, churches)
$600 – Small Business (less than 40 employees)
$3000 -  Medium Business (41—100 employees)
$5000 – Large Business (101 + employees)
$10,000 -  Title Sponsor ($10,000 -  maximum of 2 or 1 for $20,000)

In-kind Sponsorships are acceptable as well.  For example, a company can host a school supply drive for the 3rd grade and raise 100 backpacks filled with grade appropriate school supplies (a value of $1500).  Depending on the size of the company, that company may just sponsored the 3rd grade and has the privilege of being in the parade and has the first right to distribute the backpacks to the 3rd grade at the end of the parade.  Equally, sponsorship of advertisement through radio, newspaper, TV, etc., for example, will equally qualify a business to participate in the parade.  We really want people and companies to participate in the parade itself as well as the festivities.
